Easy DIY Masks and Facials for all Skin Types

DIY masks and facials can provide nutrients and minerals beneficial for all skin types.  ‘Moms are busy,’ so we asked for quick and simple recipes that can be put together with ingredients found at home.  We went searching for the best recipes, and highly rated DIY masks.  All of the recipes in this article contain natural and fresh ingredients.  An additional Anti-aging masks was added for improving elasticity of the skin and prohibiting fine lines/wrinkles from forming.  Enjoy some self-care, and possibly dip your finger into a mask so good, you can actually eat it!  Literally!


Because honey is a natural emollient increasing water content (moisturizing) and reduces dryness, many of the recipes below contain this ingredient.  Even oily skin needs a healthy moisturizer.  Honey can also be described as a wonderful antioxidant, helping diminish scarring or redness.  Health benefits pulled from honey are incredibly amazing for the face!  Furthermore, these properties help reduce acne because of the anti-inflammatory properties, and react as a natural antibacterial agent.

Oily Skin Mask

Ingredients:

  • 3 Tbsp. powdered oatmeal (put in blender and pulse until fine powder is present)
  • 2-3 tsp. strong green tea (seep one tea bag for 5 mins, and let cool)
  • 1 tsp. raw honey
  • 2-3 drops of tea tree or frankincense essential oil (optional)

How to Prepare:

  • Make tea first so there’s time to seep & cool.
  • Grind oatmeal down in blender, food processor, or coffee grinder.
  • Add tea and oatmeal to honey, mix well (mixture will be gooey).
  • If using essential oils, make sure the oil is safe for human-skin contact (read warning label).
  • Apply mask, wait 20-minutes, rinse with warm water, pat dry, and moisturize.

Normal & Combination Skin Mask

Ingredients:

How to Prepare:

  • Heat two ingredients in microwave (or on stove) 15-20 seconds.
  • Make sure not too hot, and apply to face.
  • Sit for 20-25 minutes
  • Wash with lukewarm water, pat dry, and moisturize
Dry Skin Mask

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp. Aloe Vera gel (pull from plant or purchase from store)
  • 1/2 tsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp. raw honey

How to Prepare:

  • Mix ingredients together until a paste forms (or add everything to blender and pulse).
  • Put on mask and wait 25-30 mins.
  • Use a cool damp rag to remove mask and rinse w/ cool water, then moisturize.

Anti-Aging DIY Mask

Fresh lemon juice is a component in this DIY-mask rich in vitamin C.   Similarly, lemons are super free radical fighters, and anti-inflammatory neutralizers.  Benefits include removing age spots, dark spots, and clarifying the skin to a neutral zone (not greasy or too dry).  Additional ingredients include egg whites, excellent for tightening pores.  Finally, yogurt, which contains lactic acid and alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), both unblocking pores and stimulating collagen production.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp. raw honey
  • 2 Tbsp. plain yogurt

How to Prepare:

  • Combine all ingredients in bowl.
  • Apply to face and rub in circular motion for several minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry, and moisturize.
