Starting up your own business can be one of the most stressful experiences you’ll ever have. There are so many things to consider, so many things that can go wrong, and a very slim chance for you to actually succeed. The overwhelming nature of starting a business can be daunting at first, but it can be considered a rite of passage into entrepreneurship.
Unfortunately, some people can focus a little too much on their business. They might devote too much of their time to creating a company and they might become extremely stressed when things go wrong. This is normal as the last thing you want is for your investment to go to waste or for your business to collapse due to a single mistake. This stress can really get to us and it can even cause negative health effects, making it even harder to stay focused.
So how exactly do you balance your entrepreneurial life with your health? What are some of the best ways to achieve this perfect balance?
Set a start and stop time for your business
It’s understandable that you always want to be working on your business. Thanks to the convenience of home-based businesses, it can often feel like you have a duty to be always connected and always available for customer support. However, this will only lead to extra stress on top of any responsibilities and duties you already have.
Staying tethered to your laptop every waking hour is not a good lifestyle that you want to develop. It’s best for you to set a start and stop time for your business so that you know when you should take a break and when you should ultimately put down your laptop. Set a regular schedule and you’ll find that it’s a lot easier to manage your health and also set time aside for other important things in your life.
Don’t neglect your regular checkups
A key to managing our health is attending regular checkups to see how we’re doing. Whether you’re visiting the dentist for a checkup and cleaning session or speaking to your doctor about changes in your body, it’s important to have a clear understanding of your body and to prevent any issues from developing.
Identifying signs of stress or illness early will help you recover more quickly, and this also means that you’ll be able to spend more time focusing on your business instead of being in bed because you’re feeling poorly.
Eat healthy and exercise
You already know the drill…you have to eat the good stuff to take care of your body. Follow the 80/20 rule. 80 precent of what you eat should be veggies, fruits, grains, nuts and lean meats. The remaining 20 percent can be dedicated to the ice cream sundaes and Friday night cravings.
And yes, you do need physical activity but it doesn’t have to be running five miles or hitting the gym hard everyday. Try a ten minute workout five days a week or check out a fitness workout on YouTube. You can even take walks during your lunch break.
Take note of the things that cause stress
It’s also a good idea to take note of anything that causes you stress. You might find it annoying to deal with certain team members or you might be straining yourself to do specific tasks that you’re not qualified for.
As an example, some people find that doing something like accounting can be difficult and stressful because they’re not qualified for it, so it helps to hire someone that is actually capable of doing the job. This not only helps to free some of your time, but it can actually make your business more productive too.
While making a living and running a successful business is important mompreneurs, keep in mind that your health is more important. Being mentally and physically well ensures that your business will continue to grow because you are healthy enough to continue to build it. Be well moms!
