Mom’s Work an Average of 98 Hours a Week

Mom’s are working an average of 98 hours a week, according to a survey conducted by Welch’s.  The study disclosed results to Yahoo! in 2017, which followed 2,000 U.S. mothers with children ranging  from the ages of 5 – 12 years old.  Mom’s disclosed the in’s and out’s of daily life, juggling children, eating habits, and schedules.  The average week contains 168 hours a week, a professional employee works 40 hours a week, and mom’s are pulling 14 hour days.  If the survey pinpointed one thing, it was clear that mom’s are busy!

Survey Results

According to Yahoo!, Casey Lewis, the health and nutrition lead analyst described the actions of daily mom-life.  He disclosed, “just how demanding the role of mom can be and the non-stop barrage of tasks it consists of.” The study also disclosed the average working day for mothers begins at 6:23 a.m., and ends approximately at 8:31 p.m.  Generally, working professionals get two days off a week, whereas, a mom is working seven days a week.  Furthermore, 60% of mothers are also part of the professional work force, meaning they are working “2.5 jobs a week”.  According to Pew Research Center, mother’s struggle to ensure they spend enough time with children, while balancing between work and life.

Mother’s days are filled with constant planning, juggling, and “never ending services of tasks.”

Mom Facts

When speaking to mother’s across the nation, the top three items we couldn’t live without (according to Welch’s study), consisted of:

  1. A constant supply of coffee;
  2. The ability to turn Netflix on day or night when needed, and
  3.  Yoga pants.

Mom’s also listed iPad’s, drive-through meals, and wet wipes, as essentials for daily life.  Additionally, women in the survey divulged they typically used kid-specific quirks, mom-tricks, and bags of snacks to keep their fast-paced lives moving.  The arsenal most mom’s used to stay on track ranged from toys to snacks and anything in between.

Mom’s are Powerful & Resilient

Essentially, Welch’s learned that mom’s are on-the-go busy wonders that keep family’s moving.  While their day’s are filled with constant planning, juggling, and “never ending services of tasks” we realize that women are extremely busy!  It is amazing when the recognition of a mother’s work is noticed.
